SNP#4 - Community Council voting

:judge: Introducing Community Council Candidates

We’re excited to introduce the first 3 teams nominated as candidates for the Community Council. Each team has submitted a proposal outlining their vision and approach to governance.

Only one team will be selected to serve this term.

:light_bulb: Meet the Candidates:

Please review each proposal, ask questions, and participate in the upcoming vote to help shape the future of the DAO.

great mans and great Yuppi @Yuppi

Can you explain the utility of the NS token vs the utility of the AEON NFTs?
Did the AEON NFT holders receive NS at the NS token launch?
Why should AEON NFT holders still be considered as a separate stake holder in this project?

Who are the stake holders we should keep in mind when voting in the DAO?

  • SuiNS domain holders (customers)
  • partners who integrate SuiNS such that the network effect kicks in
  • NS holders
  • other stake holders?

@Welp @WillNigri @williamm168

Has anyone done a write up comparing the Name Services currently available?

Who are the representatives of the Sui foundation?

NS is the governance token of the NS DAO, if you pay using NS it gives you discounts in your NS names and voting grants awards.

AEON NFTs were received as a gift for holding 1k club (000-999 digit NS domains). They did not grant token allocations but they are very cool collectibles within our ecosystem. AEON holders benefited from several whitelist opportunities with partner projects, but the true value came from how the community organized around these NFTs to demonstrate its strength and cohesion.

Regarding NS token utility versus AEON NFTs: The NS token serves as the governance token for the SuiNS DAO, allowing holders to vote on proposals and participate in protocol decisions. It’s the primary mechanism for protocol governance. AEON NFTs, on the other hand, represent early community engagement but don’t have explicit governance powers.

When considering stakeholders for voting decisions, I believe we should keep several groups in mind:

  1. SuiNS domain holders (our customers) - They’re using the product directly and their experience matters tremendously.
  2. Integration partners - Projects that have integrated or are considering integrating SuiNS, as their adoption creates the network effects that drive value.
  3. NS token holders - They’ve invested in the governance of the protocol and have financial interest in its success.
  4. AEON NFT holders - While not having direct governance powers, they represent our earliest and often most engaged community members.
  5. The broader Sui ecosystem - Our decisions impact and are impacted by the health of the overall Sui network.

Good governance requires balancing the interests of all these stakeholders. While NS token holders have the formal voting power, the most successful DAOs consider the broader ecosystem when making decisions. This multi-stakeholder approach leads to more sustainable growth and better alignment of incentives across the ecosystem.
